Traditional Mahjong game in which you play against 3 other players - sole against all computer players, or play with one to three other friends or network players via Game Center. Seats not filled by friends or network players are played by the computer. You may exchange group text messages and voice chats while in the multiplayer game.
Each player is dealt 13 tiles in a hand. The players take turns to draw a tile and discard one. The goal is to make 4 sets and 1 pair. Declare a win by tapping on a received tile or tapping/dragging on discarded tile that completes the hand of 14 tiles. The default mode will auto prompt you when a set or a winning hand can be formed with a tile drawn or discarded. Hands formed must be of some minimum point value (0-3) in order to win the round. A zero base point would allow chicken hand. The default is 0 base point, but can be customized.
If the base point is set to greater than zero, an attempt to steal a discard that does not produce the minimum points to win will be preempted by another players claim for pung, for example. Falsely declaring a win when the hand does not meet the base point will be penalized. The claim on a discard to form a hand with enough points to win has priority over other attempts to form kong, punt, or chow.
Refer to wikipedia for a detailed description of the suite and scoring system of the game.
As few reviewers noted, this game offers realistic play. Drag a tile out to discard it. You will be prompted to make a choice to pung, declare a win, etc, or drag a tile discarded by another player to claim it. Tap any tile on your hand to declare a win if not using auto prompt mode. You can move and rearrange the tiles at will. To have them sorted automatically, do a horizontal swipe above your hand.
You can adjust the game speed and sound. You can also control that hands be of some minimum point value (0-3) in order to win the round. A zero base point would allow chicken hand. You can choose to play flower and season tiles.
Choose "Align discarded tiles" to line discarded tiles neatly, else discarded tiles are spin and placed randomly. You can change the the color of the background and tiles, or use a picture as the game background.
Multitask switching on supported iOS. Game is paused when you switch away from the App and automatically resumed when you return. Resume button is used to resume game saved if App is terminated (or for older iOS without multitask support).
The players bank will be shown at the start of the game. To see the bank during the game, tap on the players name.
Your name in the game is taken from the Game Center alias and can be customized in the Game Center app. If you did not login to Game Center, the name is determined from the following sources (if used) in order: your name used for iCloud, other email, the name on your iPad/iPhone/iTouch. You may customize the names of the computer players.
Pros and cons of Mahjong! app for iPhone and iPad
Mahjong! app good for
Finally I found a Mahjong App. that is not a Shanghai clone but the REAL Mahjong Game !! I LOVE IT
Its a good traditional game of mahjong the only thing I recommend changing is that the player should be allowed to move the pieces within their own hand
I bought this app for my mother and she absolutely loves it. Her only suggestion so for is that there should be stats to keep track of your wins and losses. Maybe a chip pile etc.
Programming needs a lot of work! The bug for a dead hand still isnt fixed and there are still errors in calculating points (it seems that it sometimes cant differ between chow and pong!) Needs a better menu. It just needs a lot of help!
Gameplay is good but the calculations of score is still incorrect sometimes. Needs the option to kong after you draw the fourth tile to a a set you have already ponged. After these problems are fixed this game has potential to be pretty good. Also after the new update, when I start a new game the direction/seat winds are no longer visible
Really close to a great game. Hope to see some bug fixes for next revision.
1. Could not "goong" 4 tiles at initial start of hand.
2. Landscape mode: players tiles blink out, right computer tiles shift left. (tilt IPad and things return to normal)
3. Computer discards could be at same position to allow for easy "pong". (Many times, lost good opportunity because could not grab tile fast enough at different positions. (But I also need to play at a fast pace so cant slow overall game.))
4. Nice "round" and "seat" indicators. One time it disappeared, had to reinstall.
5. Please somehow avoid overlapping discarded tiles when not using "align discarded tiles".
6. If possible, have multiple player scores. So I can allow others to play without affecting my score.
7. If possible, make arranging tiles more precise. When moving tile left, it positions it one tile too far left.
Good luck. Definitely recommending to my friends. (No comments on scoring. Whole other topic.)
Some bad moments
The graphics are very good but the countings and results are dramatical bad! Also there is missing a reset-button!
Very pleasant to play with, good design and feeling.
Important bug : Quite often, when claiming a discarded tile in order to complete a chow in your hand, the game doesnt detect the possible chow and the pop-up only propose "Declare a win".
Suggestion 1 : To set an "Undo" button
Suggestion 2 : To set the possibility to adjust the speed when other players claim a discarded tile (really to fast, no chance for the real player to take a tile before them !)
There is a bug in version 1.1. The application abruptly quits (every time) back to iPad home screen when the settings button is pressed. Issue reported to developer, but to no acknowledgement.
There is opportunity in the game layout design; the tile sort is not logical (ie suits are not grouped together), then auto sort kicks in after messing up my manual sort. There is no score keeper, or how much you won or loss each round. No multiplayer capacity.
Low replay value. Recommend "Four Wind Mahjong" for iPad.
too buggy to be released to the public. apple should have better quality control on what they put up for sale in their app store.
A few nagging bugs make the game a little frustrating...
1) Scoring is confusing! Computer keeps winning "chicken hands" even when the minimum hand setting is selected. Also, cant see what the current scores for yourself or your opponents are.
2) The computer can steal your "winning" tile with a "pung". I believe that the winning hand has priority over a pung regardless of seating order, etc.
Hopefully, these and other issues get resolved.
When it is a draw game, the app doesnt know and asks the player to keep playing. Then it will crash and you need to relaunch the app. However, now the app is just frozen after a drawn game and I can reset/relaunch app. I want my 2 bucks back! Its useless to me if I cant play. What a rip.
